Shaun Muringani (26), of Flat Number 104, Zimra Blue Flat in the border town pleaded not guilty to a charge of theft as defined in section 113 of the Criminal Law (Reform and Codification) Act when he appeared before Beitbridge provincial resident magistrate Ms Gloria Takundwa.
He was remanded out of custody to 24 May for trial on $50 bail.
The prosecutor, Mr Jabulani Mberesi, said on 22 October, two Samsung HD television sets were seized by Zimra from a traveller who had failed to pay customs duty at the Beitbridge Border Post.
They were taken to the State warehouse for safekeeping. The court heard between that period and 17 February, Muringani allegedly stole one of the impounded television sets from the warehouse.
On 17 February at around 3.30pm, Shepherd Karidza,a Zimra revenue specialist discovered that one of the television sets was missing prompting him to quiz his subordinates including the accused person.
They, however, denied having stolen it.
It is alleged that Muringani later secretly returned the stolen property prompting his workmates to become suspicious and they alerted their superiors.
A report was made to the police leading to Muringani's arrest.
