Zimbabwean beauty Gumisai Makombe is the 2011 Miss African Spirit winner.

Five Zimbabwean beauties, Tafadzwa Jambwa, Nandiipha Shylet Moyo, Quincelee Prudence Nyoni, Gumisai Makombe and Cynthia Mtombeni, took part in the second edition of the Miss African Spirit beauty pageant which took place in Milton Keynes, UK.

Jambwa was first princess at Miss Zimbabwe UK in 2010.

A total of 25 African beauty queens represented 11 countries in the event and The Zimbabwean beauty came tops.

The countries represented this year included Uganda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, Angola, Nigeria, Zambia, South Africa, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana and Namibia.

Miss African Spirit pageant director, Michelle Adams said; "Part of the pageant's appeal and the reason why it has already proven very popular is that it sets itself apart from all other pageants. We don't have size, height or weight restrictions on the part of the contestants.

"There is also no swimwear round. In this day and age where pageants are glorified fashion shows, where it seems slimmer, ‘size zero' models are the order of the day, the Miss African Spirit has challenged that perspective and has proven that indeed size does not matter," she added.

Miss Makombe, the winner of the pageant will commit to a charity organisation which she will support during her reign as Miss African Spirit 2011. This, according to Michelle, will ensure that contestants make a purposeful contribution to society.

Included in the judging panel this year was former model and R&B singer/actress Karen Stally, winner of Miss Zimbabwe 1993 as well as the reigning Mrs Universe England, Jayne Taylor and UK entrepreneur Anfor Farooque.

Special guest appearances will be made by current Miss Teen Galaxy UK Gabriella Gatehouse, and Face of Elegant Cristal, local beauty Ayesha Khanom, amongst others.

Zimbabwean born, Nonhlanhla Togwe was last year's winner of the pageant.
