AN elderly woman in Nyanga was last week arrested after she allegedly assisted her domestic worker to assault and rape her 13-year-old niece.

Ever Kunyarimwe allegedly held the juvenile's legs apart and gagged her mouth before Prosper Dyke raped her once.

Police confirmed the incident which happened in Nyarimwe Village, Tombo 2.

Police said Kunyarimwe and Dyke are assisting them with investigations.

The incident happened in November 2011 and came to light this year.

Police said sometime in November 2011, at around 6pm, "Kunyarimwe sent the juvenile to collect maize-meal in a room which was 10 metres away. Prosper allegedly followed and tripped her down intending to rape her.

Kunyarimwe followed them after the juvenile had screamed for help, she allegedly held the girl's legs and gagged her mouth which enabled Prosper to rape the juvenile without any difficulties.

After the incident, they all  returned to the kitchen and Kunyarimwe ordered the juvenile not to tell anyone.

"The juvenile revealed this year that she had been raped after constantly complaining of stomach pains," said assistant Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda.

He said investigations were in progress.
