Police said 748 people were injured in 1 011 road accidents recorded during this festive season. The festive season began on Thursday last week.
Police spokesperson Superintend-ent Andrew Phiri yesterday said 2 070 unroadworthy vehicles were impounded countrywide.
"We have also issued 81 756 tickets for various traffic offences," he said.
Supt Phiri attributed most of the accidents to speeding, misjudgment and negligence.
"Most of the accidents were caused by speeding, misjudgment and driver inattention," he said.
Supt Phiri said the holiday was still on, urging drivers to exercise caution.
"It is our hope that drivers will continue to exercise caution and abide by all the rules and regulations when travelling on the roads," he said.
In Harare, nine people have been killed between Wednesday night and Thursday morning while 78 others were injured in 322 road accidents recorded so far.
