VICE-President Dr John Landa Nkomo on Thursday called on Zimbabweans to uphold the spirit of unity in order to preserve peace and tranquility in the country.

Giving a vote of thanks after President Mugabe officially opened the Zanu-PF 12th Annual National People's Conference at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) grounds in Bulawayo yesterday, VP Nkomo, who is also the Second Secretary of Zanu-PF, said Zimbabweans should speak with one voice in denouncing all forms of divisions and violence among themselves.

"We in Zanu-PF we say peace begins with me, peace begins with you, peace begins with all of us.  Our strength lies within our unity," said VP Nkomo who also led thousands of party supporters in reciting the axiom.

VP Nkomo said people should emulate the principles and  superb leadership skills of President Mugabe.

"President Mugabe is one person who has walked the talk. He is a consistent person who does not believe in amendments to the original principles.

"With him once we get going we   do not stop. It is forward ever. What we have been given is a good counsel and with that I see a brighter future for Zimbabwe. We should remain steadfast and continue

with the leadership of President Mugabe  in our quest for sovereignty, freedom, peace and tranquility," said VP Nkomo.

He said Zanu-PF was a principled party that was founded on solid objectives of empowering ordinary Zimbabweans.

VP Nkomo urged Zimbabweans to be vigilant when they elect leaders by considering the virtues of astute leadership such as that of President Mugabe.

He said President Mugabe has distinguished himself as a giant leader on the continent and that the whole of Africa now looks forward to borrowing from President Mugabe's leadership.
