THE National University of Science and Technology (Nust) has set stringent conditions for students who have not paid registration fees and warned they would be forced to repeat.

The university set Monday 13 February as the late registration deadline after the initial registration period expired on 30 January.

In a telephone interview yesterday, Nust director of information and public relations Mr Felix Moyo said the university would not extend the registration period beyond Monday.

Mr Moyo said those who would have not registered by Monday risk being asked to repeat their academic year regardless of whether they were in class or on industrial attachment.

"The original registration period expired on 30 January and the late registration deadline is Monday 13 February. Those who do not register by that date would have to repeat the whole year if they are in class or if they are on attachment," said Mr Moyo.

"We closed two weeks ago but extended because they had not paid and the minimum payment they can make is $200."

Mr Moyo said registration was not about money and urged students to approach the authorities and make payment plans.

"Students should realise the importance of registering for the academic period ahead of them. It is a small number of students who have not registered but we are worried as an institution because we have seen they are not coming to register because they think they can register throughout the year," Mr Moyo said.

"Those who do not have money and have problems can approach the bursar's office and make payment plans while those on cadetship can as well go to the Dean of Students' Office where they can make payment plans and that should be before Monday."
