Urban grooves singer Roki made a surprise appearance at Alick Macheso's gig held over the weekend in Rhodesville.

The "Chidzoka" hitmaker performed before a small crowd that turned up for the gig held for the first time at Red Fox Chase Hotel, a venue popularly known for hosting massive reggae and dancehall shows.

Roki, whose real name is Rockford Josphats, took to the stage with his on/off lover Pauline Gundidza and Lovedale "Discord" Makalanga of Mafriq and performed "Chidzoka" backed by Macheso's band - the Orchestra Mberikwazvo.

"Ehee Roki ndakamuona pachivhitivhiti achiedza kuluma asi zvisinei akalumila hanzi inonzi luminati," Macheso joked obvioulsy referring to Roki's stint in the "Big Brother Africa StarGame".

When it comes to showmanship Roki does it so well and that is one thing which has kept him going despite all the controversies surrounding his love life. Although Pauline and Roki are no longer living together as husband and wife, it is the music which unites them.

Apparently, it is believed Macheso and Roki are working in the studio together and who knows a record might be coming out soon. Roki has so far indicated that he was moving away from being an urban groover to other genres. Having worked with Zambia's queen diva Mampi he might be trying out sungura.

Macheso is one of the biggest crowd pullers but his weekend gig painted a different picture. Maybe it could be that most of his fans were affected by mid-month blues or that the venue was too small for a name as big as Macheso. However, those who attended had a great time out as Macheso who is now referred to as Baba Sharo gave his best in song and dance.
