MARS workers go on strike over salary dispute

Medical Air Rescue (MARS) workers have downed tools following a salary dispute which they claim has dragged on for over three months with their employer.

The workers who were visibly angry and demonstrating at their company headquarters in Eastlea, Harare allege that their employer has not paid their salaries for the past three months and has not even bothered to attend to their grievances.

Workers representative, Mr. Harry Munyoro, said they decided to down their tools as a way of showing their employer that they are not pleased with the manner in which they are being treated.

He said workers were finding it difficult to survive as they are rendering their services to a company which is not paying them their dues.

MARS executive director, Dr Zack Wazara, was said to be in a meeting when this news crew contacted him for comment.

Several companies are struggling to pay their workers’ monthly salaries due to liquidity constraints affecting key productive sectors of the economy.

In some instances, gross mismanagement has been cited.
