Zimbabwe digitalisation process on course

Engineers are working flat out to ensure the digitalisation process becomes a reality in the next few weeks.

The process begins with the installation of a nine meter satellite dish which will carry the signal to 48 digital transmitters across the country.

Zimbabwe is racing against time to meet the 17 of June International Telecommunications Union (ITU) deadline for the digitalisation process.

Huawei Senior Integration Manager, Mr Bhanu Pratap Singh said construction of the foundation for the setting up of the nine meter satellite dish is already in progress, which is critical for the digital revolution.

Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) Technical Manager, Mr Mathias Chakanyuka said engineers are on the ground to ensure all is in place with 48 digital transmitters having been erected across the country.

Besides the work being carried out, critical equipment has already arrived in the country, according to Transmedia Corporation Acting Chief Operations Officer, Mr Rufaro Zaranyika.

The equipment will help improve the quality of pictures and the television signal.

The ITU has set 17 June 2015 as the deadline for broadcasting stations to migrate from analogue to digital
