Johannesburg - Zimbabwe did no participate on this years' Africa week tournament which was played in Yeoville over the weekend.

Speaking to Byo24News , African Diaspora Forum (ADF) tournament organiser did not reveal why Zimbabwe was excluded in this year's tournament but mentioned that whats important now is for Africa to unite.

“This tournament is to foster good relations among all Africans living in Joburg. Sports, soccer in particular, can bring people together to celebrate their Africaness. It's a a chance to celebrate African unity and diversity," he said without talking about Zimbabwe's exclusion from the tournament.

The tournament is part of the “Many Faces, One Africa: Migrants' Rights Are Human Rights Pan-African Celebration. Teams fighting out this year includes  South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria and Cameroon who were last years champions.

Africa Day is celebrated annually on 25 May to mark the 1963 founding of the Africa Union. The 21 bMay event will also comemmorate the xenophobic attacks that rocked South Africa in May 2008, reminding people that such violence must never happen again.

These events were organised by the African Diaspora Forum (ADF) and Community media for development (CMFD).
