Shabanie Mine 0 – 2 Chicken Inn

HOSTS Shabanie Mine turned on a lifeless display in front of their home fans yesterday when they fell to 10-man Chicken Inn in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Maglas.

The asbestos miners received a tough lesson in football basics in the second half as their former son Thabani Goredema returned to haunt them with brilliant show which he capped by scoring a brace.

Shabanie president Greg Mataka and club chairman Wilfred Makazhe were forced to leave the stadium before the match had finished.

Shabanie were simply out of sorts and it was only the brilliance of Rowan Nenzou and Jonathan Chitereki that gave their fans little hope before the damage was done Goredema.

The former Shabanie Mine player opened the account in the 56th minute when he collected a poor clearance from the Shabanie defence, positioned himself well before sending a scorcher to the left side of the nets with goalkeeper Roy Mazingi at the wrong side of the action.

It was Goredema's first goal against his former team since he left Shabanie to play for Kiglon and later CAPS United. Goredema then sealed his brace with a minute to full time dashing all the hopes Shabanie had of finding an equaliser.

Earlier in the match Solomon Ndlovu sent another chance begging when he hesitated to shoot at goal in the 34th minute when he was fed in the box by Smart Muchabaiwa but he chose to pass the ball to the wrong man Herbet Dick who cleared the ball to safety. Last week the asbestos miners lost their opening match 3-0 to Highlanders and next weekend they make the long trip to face on fire CAPS United at Rufaro.
