Suspended Warrior and Mamelodi Sundowns striker Nyasha Mushekwi looks set to ink a deal with German Bundesliga football outfit FC Nuremberg after it emerged yesterday that he was set to undergo a medical at the club today.

Paris-based Zimbabwean agent Ralph Nkomo, who is looking after the 24-year-old former Caps United striker, told a South African soccer magazine, Laduma, about the impending medical.

"He (Mushekwi) arrived 10 days late, but we're trying to salvage the situation. He's having a medical tomorrow (today) ahead of an important cup game, so I'm flying in this evening (yesterday) and hopefully we will be able to reach an agreement. I think he'll sign for them. It wasn't a trial for them, they just wanted to see him in person, see his abilities, rather than just on a video."

It was revealed last week that the 24-year-old was set to leave for Germany for a trial with the club ahead of a possible move to Europe, after Sundowns reportedly turned down an offer of around R8 million for the player.

Nkomo said Mushekwi had impressed during his trial stint.

"They are really impressed with what he has shown and they want to sign him, but you should know that Nyasha is a Sundowns player so everything will depend on the talks between Sundowns and Nuremberg. But otherwise, he has done very well here," Nkomo concluded.

It is thought that Downs are still hoping to receive around €1 million (R10 million) for Mushekwi and the crew had been informed that Belgian club Standard Liege and English Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday had also shown an interest in the forward.

A source close to the striker told the crew that he played with Nuremberg last week in a club friendly and looked sharp.

"In the few days that he has been at the team, he has already impressed and the team will write to Sundowns and give them the proposal about the move which I think is imminent," said the source.

Meanwhile, former Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City striker Benjamin Mwaruwari is still training with South Africa's Jomo Cosmos.
