HIGHLANDERS chairman Peter Dube was yesterday questioned by the police after a supporter filed a report that he verbally abused him and threatened him with unspecified action during the Caps United match at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.

In his report at Barbourfields Police Post on Sunday night, Siboniso Ndebele alleged that Dube threatened him and verbally abused him using unprintable words.

The case was filed under CR Number 94/7/12.

"Yes I can confirm that we have received a report filed by one Siboniso Ndebele against a Peter Dube with allegations that he was threatened with unspecified action by Dube during a football match at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday," said Bulawayo provincial police spokesman, Mandlenkosi Moyo last night. Moyo said both parties were expected to report to the police for further investigations on the issue.

When a Chronicle news crew visited Barbourfields Police Post yesterday, Dube's car was parked in the parking area while he was inside having his fingerprints taken.

He was still inside when the crew left with information filtering through suggesting that he would appear in court this morning.

Ndebele said the former club secretary verbally abused him in front of shocked supporters and threatened him with unspecified action before telling him never to set foot at any Highlanders match again.

"I could have retaliated but realised that violence costs the team a lot and the situation was really going to be nasty there so I decided to let the law take its course. I cannot be insulted with such unprintable words," said Ndebele.

Ironically, the incident happened during halftime when Highlanders players, Knox Mutizwa and Arnold Ndiweni were moving around the field carrying a big banner denouncing violence during matches.
