THE eagerly awaited Battle of Zimbabwe pitting giants Highlanders and Dynamos which had been set for tomorrow at Barbourfields Stadium has been postponed to a later date.
This means that Bulawayo football fans will have to wait longer for the Bosso-DeMbare first round encounter which had initially been scheduled for Week Five.
It could not take place on the weekend of 28-29 April because Dynamos were involved in a Caf Champions League encounter against Esperance in Tunisia.
The Harare giants were clobbered 6-0 in Tunis and a fortnight later they drew 1-1 at Rufaro, bowing out of the continent's lucrative tournament on a 7-1 aggregate loss.
In an interview yesterday, the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League chief executive officer Kennedy Ndebele confirmed the developments and said the league was yet to come up with a new date.
"Logistical reasons have forced us to postpone the Highlanders-Dynamos match. We do not want to disrupt the national team programme as we have heard that the Warriors will not break camp and chances are high that national team coach Rahman Gumbo might call in some players for camp.
"The Zimbabwe national team is expected tonight (last night) and this means that Dynamos will have to travel with their players to Bulawayo tomorrow (today), play tomorrow then some of their players join camp on Thursday. That will be too much for the players and it might also affect the national team's preparations," said Ndebele.
Zimbabwe take on Burundi in a must-win 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Harare at the weekend. The Warriors lost the first game in Bujumbura 2-1 with Knowledge Musona getting the consolation goal.
Takesure Chinyama and Denver Mukamba are the two Dynamos players that travelled to Mozambique with the national team for the World Cup qualifier.
The other Dynamos player who was dropped at the 11th hour for the Mozambique trip was centreback Partson Jaure.
He might be called for camp to prepare for the Burundi encounter.
The other challenge that led to the postponement of Battle of Zimbabwe Part One was that the police needed time to mobilise the security to deal with the big turnout.
With Highlanders playing so well, the match is likely to attract a big crowd from Bulawayo and other towns.
Last season both teams drew nil all at Barbourfields and Dynamos won the reverse fixture 3-1 in Harare.
Bosso last beat Dynamos in July 2006, winning 1-0 in a league game and that was the year Highlanders won the championship.
In 2007, Highlanders lost 2-1 while the other league tie ended in a 0-0. The following season they drew both league games 1-1.
In 2009, Dynamos won 4-0 and 1-0 over the two league encounters.
Dynamos' dominance over Bosso continued in 2010 winning 1-0 at Rufaro before the ill-tempered reverse fixture that ended prematurely when Bosso were on the receiving end.
