Bosso savours flying start

HIGHLANDERS' coach, Kevin Kaindu, says his team's flying start was just what they needed to prepare for tougher battles ahead against their traditional rivals. Bosso's 3-0 win over bogey side Monomotapa at Barbourfields on Sunday ensured they continued they brilliant start to the campaign where they remain unbeaten in the opening six games of the season.

Goals from the revitalised Graham Ncube, Peter Moyo and Milton Ncube earned Highlanders their fifth victory, in six games, and opened a three-point lead at the top of the table.

Bosso, who took pole position last week, have made their best start since 2006 when they won the first 10 games and went on to lift the league championship.

Although it is still early to talk about the championship, the promising start has given the Highlanders family reason to believe in their side this year.

Zambian mentor Kaindu, who has received a lot of credit for the transformation of the team's fortunes this year, believes they have become the team to beat and should brace for tougher challenges ahead.

Bosso's traditional rivals are Dynamos and CAPS United although Highlanders' impressive 3-1 away win over FC Platinum was as good as it can get on away missions.

"It brings so much competition and you know what happens when the big teams are in form. This is a bonus to the Zimbabwean fans," said Kaindu.

"We had a very good game against Monomotapa and I think we had a glimpse of the kind of competition we should expect in our coming games just because they are one of the teams in the top five at the moment.

"I have played here before and I know the dynamics of the game. We are the team to beat at the moment and that puts us in the spotlight.

"But it's early to talk about the Dynamos game because we don't know when the match will be played. The fixture hasn't been confirmed yet.

"I would rather talk about Hwange whom we play at the weekend."

Highlanders will have to negotiate a tricky tie against Hwange this Sunday but the football family is already talking about the tie against Dynamos, which was supposed to have been played at Barbourfields on April 29.

However, the match was postponed to a later date as Dynamos were involved in the Caf Champions League competition.

The Premier Soccer League are still deliberating on a new date for the big tie.

What has made the wait interesting is Dynamos' form in the domestic competitions, which has seen them winning four of their five games to sit third on the table.

Dynamos, despite their woes in the African Champions League, have collected 12 points while Bosso — who played one game more — managed to amass 16 from a possible 18.

Highlanders have managed to score in every outing at an average rate of three goals per game, which underlines their attacking prowess.

"I think the players have been working hard of late but overall the grace of God has been upon us," said Kaindu.

"I believe it's all because of the power of the Almighty.

"We have been telling the players to keep focused and to be disciplined."

Motor Action took advantage of Dynamos' inactivity in the domestic league to rise to second place after edging newboys Hardbody 1-0 at home on Saturday.

The Mighty Bulls, with four wins, a draw and one defeat have now amassed 13 points.

Blue Rangers remain the only team to win a game this season after going down to Gunners at Lafarge on Saturday.

Rangers still anchor the table with two points following the 0-1 loss.

Former Zimbabwe youth international William Manondo scored the solitary goal.
