7:26pm, Mar 21 - ‪+263 8*** *** ***‬: Dear editor, thank you for giving me a platform to express my concerns.

For years I have been watching how the people of Matebeleland have been sidelined and discriminated against in terms of employment and business opportunities. Government departments and the private sector do not employ Ndebele speaking people or other minority tribes here in Zimbabwe.

It seems its a deliberate ploy to frustrate people from Matebeleland region and this has worsened ever since Doctor Joshua Nkomo passed on. When jobs are advertised they are given to Shona speaking people even though Ndebeles may be better qualified for the jobs. Sometimes Ndebeles are not even called for an interview. I have applied for jobs both in Government departments and the private sector but not even one day was I called for an interview.

I have good qualifications in the engineering field. I was surprised when VP Mphoko was discouraging our pupils from leaving school and go to South Africa to look for jobs.

Where is their motivation for them to continue their studies here when they can't even find jobs with good qualifications? Where is their motivation when they are reduced to second class citizens? For as long as the Government and private companies continue to discriminate against our people they will continue going down south for greener pastures. Companies here in Matabeleland are full of Shona speaking people. Schools are full of Shona speaking teachers.

If this kind of discrimination continues then we call for the breakaway of Matebeleland from Zimbabwe and form our own country. We have the resources here and we can do better than what we are currently doing in Zimbabwe.

We have the capacity to generate the basic human needs of shelter, food, power, clothing and health. We can achieve this through our vast renewable energy resources. Our economy will grow to the levels better than what we are currently experiencing here in Zimbabwe.
