SADC's future secured

18 Aug 2014 at 15:32hrs | Views

The regional block, SADC has come of age and certainly winds of positive fortunes have finally engulfed the region. What with the iconic and legendary statesman President Mugabe of Zimbabwe having been handed the region's chairmanship badge at the 34 SADC Summit of Heads of States and Government being held under the theme 'SADC Strategy for Economic Transformation: Leveraging the Region's Diverse Resources for Sustainable Economic and Social Development through Beneficiation and Value Addition', the sky could indeed be the only limit. Certainly given the flawless character of President Mugabe which has earned him global fame, the legendary icon has a soft spot for the poor and down trodden. The man is simply principled; imagine his strong moral background which made him to deplore the despicable behavior of these morally bankrupt Westerners whose craving for people of the same sex knows no boundary. Despite their threats to President Mugabe's principled stance, the Zimbabwean President stood his ground to lash out at these morally deficient practices which boarders on insanity. Surely when the SADC region is blessed with such an African luminary who is a typical encyclopedia on African issues and even global matters, the region is certainly headed for greater times which will see the region emerging stronger at the end of the term of Zimbabwe's chairmanship.

The region is an oasis of peace, so refreshing is its track record since the demise of the apartheid era. Yes, political independence has been achieved, with the then architect of region's protracted liberation struggles having been honored, Retired Brigadier General Hashim Mbita being honored with the Munhumutapa Order of Merit in Victoria Falls; it is in the sphere of economic emancipation where the region has to immerse immense effort. Then it can only be a blessing that President Mugabe who has of late presided over the economic matters of his country with success despite the illegal and heinous economic sanctions which remains intact to this day. It is only a matter of time before Zimbabwe is recorded as a classic case of a liberated economy owned by the indigenous people of that country. Indeed, history has been rewritten as it is only Zimbabwe which has its indigenous people owning resources of their country with its statutory instrument supporting that stance. Certainly, the region will definitely benefit from this progressive stance which the Zimbabwean leadership has taken which is not only pro-people but has been lauded by those from the progressive world.

President Mugabe's strength is his ability to resist the perennial challenge of bullying of African leadership by the hawkish West which seek every opportunity to loot Africa's abundant natural resources which forever remain the envy of the Industrialized countries. It is only resolute leadership which is unyielding to such chicanery which can steer the regional block to lofty heights. One does not need to be a rocket scientist to realize the hand of the West which continues to dream of controlling Africa even many years after the region has gained its political autonomy. The credentials of President Mugabe as a refreshing voice on pan-African issues have always brought relief to multitudes of Africans. Now that he is at the helm of the SADC region, the region shall indeed curve a new trajectory in the handling of world affairs. At least the bullish West has more than their match in the new leadership of SADC.

This momentous occasion at the Victoria Falls where President Mugabe has been elevated to the chairmanship of SADC can only guarantee the region peace and prosperity. This is what the region needs at this critical stage of the its development.
