A MAID from Bulawayo appeared in court yesterday for stealing nearly $3,000 from her ailing employer. She was captured on Closed-Circuit television (CCTV) committing the crime.

Samukeliso Ndlovu of Emganwini suburb pleaded not guilty to a theft charge before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Tinashe Tashaya.

Ndlovu was remanded in custody to Monday for continuation of trial.

Prosecuting, Mrs Tafadzwa Mutsambirwa said between February 23 and March 11 this year, Ndlovu withdrew $2,956.35 from her employer, Mrs Peggy Mpofu's bank account and squandered it all.

"On February 23, 2016 the accused person took advantage of the complainant's ill-health and stole her bank card. She went to POSB bank and withdrew $1,000 from the account. She was captured on CCTV doing the transaction," said Mrs Mutsambirwa.

She said the following day, Ndlovu went back to the same bank and asked to withdraw $3,000 but the bank teller refused and told her that such an amount can only be processed in the presence of the owner of the account. She ended up withdrawing $1,000 on that day.

Mrs Mutsambirwa said on March 7 and March 11, Ndlovu went to OK Mart in Bulawayo and withdrew $505 and $456 respectively. She was also captured on CCTV.

The court also heard that Ndlovu noted Mpofu's bank account details when she accompanied her employer's relative to withdraw the money.

Mpofu was bedridden and Ndlovu subsequently used the details to withdraw the money illegally.
