A MAN from Dakamela area in Nkayi allegedly axed his neighbour during a traditional ceremony accusing him of dancing close to his wife.

Christopher Mpofu (61) has not been asked to plead to attempted murder when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Tawanda Muchemwa. He was remanded to March 26 to appear at the Bulawayo Regional Court for commencement of trial.

Allegations making his charges are that on October 27, 2014 at 5pm, the complainant Genesis Ncube of Ngomambi area in Nkayi was dancing near Mpofu's wife at a traditional ceremony.

Mpofu was not amused by the act and he armed himself with an axe that he used to strike Ncube once on the head.

Ncube sustained deep cut on the head and he filed a report at Gwelutshena Police station before he was taken to Nkayi Hospital for medical attention.

Mpofu was then arrested and charged with attempted murder.
