Edgars Stores has come to the aid of Tsholotsho villagers donating 400 blankets to those affected by floods.

The blankets were handed over to minister of State for Matabeleland North Cain Mathema at the Mhlahlandlela government complex in Bulawayo on Wednesday.

Edgars corporate and social responsibility manager Stephen Gowa told Mathema that his organisation was touched by the plight of the Tsholotsho villagers.

"We read in the media about the plight of the villagers. Initially we concentrated at Tokwe Mukosi but after learning about Tsholotsho, we decided that it was best we also assist," Guwa said.

Mathema paid tribute to Edgars and invited them to Tsholotsho on Friday where other companies would be making donations.

"We will be receiving donations from Raj Modi, the former owner of Bellevue Spar. He will be presenting the donation at the Landa John Nkomo school," said Mathema.

"The villagers will be there to receive the goods because we want to promote transparency and avoid a situation where by the donated goods pass through many hands."

Matabeleland North provincial administrator Lathiso Dlamini called on stakeholders to emulate Edgars in assisting villagers.
