In an interview yesterday, the association's interim chairperson, prominent educationist Mr Joshua Sithela Mpofu, said most schools were sustained by former pupils.
He urged the former pupils to trace their steps back to the school, situated in the Inyathi mining area in Bubi District, for the good of the school.
"The interim old students association, in conjunction with the school, is making an appeal to all former students and friends of the school wherever they are to attend the launch of a campaign to purchase a bus for the school," said Mr Mpofu, a former Northlea High School headmaster and deputy regional director for Matabeleland South.
"The launch will be on Saturday 28 July at 10am at the school. Buying the school bus was the school's idea and as old students we thought we should support the idea."
Mr Mpofu said the old students' association had been inactive for some time and they were reviving it.
"It is very important to any school for its former students to gather and form an association.
"Most schools that are doing well are supported by their former students. Schools are sustained by former students and our wish is to do the same for our former school," said Mr Mpofu.
He said some of the former pupils include former Bulawayo Town Clerk, Mr Moffat Ndlovu, the owner of Greenhorse Bus Company Mr Patrick Dube, Masiyephambili College deputy head Mrs Bertha Moyo, Mangwe Ndiweni and Commissioner Nondo, of the Public Service Commission.
Others are Professor Mthuli Ncube, a renowned economist, Dr McLean Bhala, the Lupane State University Acting Vice Chancellor, Mr Nhlanhla Masuku, who is a prominent businessman, and former Malawi Finance Minister, Aleke Banda.
