A 61-year-old Hwange man reportedly raped his neighbour's daughter thrice on different occasions and gave her R5 to buy her silence.

The man, Fanny Gadaga, had developed a habit of calling the girl aged eight to his house and would rape her and give her money ranging from R5 to $1.

Matabeleland North police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Siphiwe Makonese confirmed the incident yesterday and said the man would soon appear in court.

"The incidents happened between 9 and 20 July in Mpumalanga Township, Hwange. On the first incident, the suspect raped the girl who is his neighbour's daughter and gave her R5 to buy her silence.

"Gadaga went on to call the girl again on another day and gave her R2 before sending her away. The girl went home and told no one about the matter," said Asst Insp Makonese.

She said the man ran out of luck the third time as the girl's mother noticed some changes in her daughter and took her to the hospital leading to his arrest.

"On another date Gadaga called the girl to his house and raped her for the third time and then gave her $1. However, when the girl got home, her mother noticed some blood stains on her panties and rushed her to St Patrick's Hospital," said Asst Insp Makonese.

She said after a series of tests, the girl revealed to one of the nurses at the hospital that her neighbour had raped her thrice on different occasions.

"The matter was reported to the police in Hwange leading to the arrest of Gadaga," said Asst Insp Makonese.

In another unrelated incident, a 41-year-old man from Inyathi allegedly raped his neighbour's daughter after following her on her way to the bush.

The incident happened in a bushy area near Durban Mine compound where Mpumelelo Ncube grabbed his 14-year-old neighbour and dragged her to the bush before raping her.

Asst Insp Makonese also confirmed the incident and said police have since arrested the man.
