Man fatally assaults teenage wife over 'infidelity'

A jealous man from Zhombe in Kwekwe rural assaulted his teenage wife to death with switches over suspicions that she was cheating on him and also for possessing a charm, police said.
The incident happened last week in Matshatinyoni Village under Chief Malisa.
Police identified the woman as Thembinkosi Moyo (18).
Acting police spokesperson for Midlands Assistant Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the suspect, Knowledge Phiri (30), had for long suspected his wife of infidelity.
"On the fateful day, on a Sunday, Phiri lured his wife, Moyo, to a bushy area near their homestead with the intention of disciplining her for alleged infidelity. Phiri had also discovered a charm under his pillow which he suspected to have been placed by Moyo. While in the bush, Phiri started assaulting her all over the body using switches until she fell unconscious," said Asst Insp Mahoko.
He said when Phiri realised that his wife had lost consciousness, he rushed home and informed his brother.
Asst Insp Mahoko said Phiri's brother accompanied him back to the bush where they found Moyo dead.
The matter was reported to the police and Moyo's body was ferried to Kwekwe District Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.
"We urge members of the public to consult or engage third parties or elders when faced with problems to avoid such incidents," said Asst Insp Mahoko.
