The late VP Joseph Msika's widow Maria is reportedly ill and has been hospitalised at St Anne's Hospital since Friday.

Joseph Wilfred Msika (6 December 1923 – 4 August 2009) was a Zimbabwean politician who served as Vice President of Zimbabwe from 1999 to 2009.

It is understood the wheelchair-bound Maria is admitted in the executive ward on the first floor of the private health facility where she is being looked after by two aides. Hospital staff, however, declined to disclose the nature of her illness.

Last year, Msika’s widow received a donation of an electric wheelchair during her 82nd birthday by Vice-Presidents John Nkomo and Joice Mujuru after her health deteriorated.

Maria married the late Vice- President in 1946 and stood by him during and after the liberation struggle until his death on August 4 2009 at the age of 85.
