A section of Zimbabweans have supported the clampdown by government on the foreign gays and lesbians attending the International Conference on Aids and STI's in Africa (ICASA) in Harare.

The President of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe is  known to be hostile towards homosexuals and has described them as being "worse than dogs and pigs."

A survey by NewsDay revealed that most readers have low tolerance of the gay and lesbian community bordering on homophobia.

Some netizens reacted with such vehemence against homosexuals and resorted to profanities to express their disapproval of them such that NewsDay had to censor their comments. One of our readers Ladza lashed out at the gay community and condemned their activities.

Homosexuality is foreign to our culture, please please we don't want to stoop so low to the point were we subscribe to such a horrible act, if the first world countries rubberstamp such things that will almost make us vomit well that's them and we should not be whipped into accepting such mediocre acts in the name of civilisation, since when has climbing on top of another man become "civilisation". Those who want to practice Sodom and Gommorah go and do it somewhere else not in Zimbabwe, if you want to have sex find yourself a woman not to try and take down a bearded man ,talk of other rights not those kind of rights. Please please, elsewhere not in Zimbabwe. Social media was awash with anti gay sentiments;
