A Group of environmentalists who have been irked by the killing of a lion, named Cecil have prepared on online petition aimed at Attorney General - Johannes Tomana urging him to punish the offender.

A hunter is said to have  paid a $55,000 bribe to wildlife guides to kill an "iconic" lion.

The 13-year-old lion was a major tourist attraction at Zimbabwe's famous Hwange National Park.

Below is the petition:

Target: Johannes Tomana, Attorney General of Zimbabwe

Goal: Severely punish the hunter who lured Cecil the Lion out of his home, shot him with a crossbow and gun and beheaded and skinned him.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Attorney General Johannes Tomana,

Cecil the Lion was illegally hunted for $55,000 by being lured out of his home in a national park using food, shot with a crossbow, tracked for 40 more hours, then murdered with a gun. Cecil's head was cut off as a trophy of his murder, and he was skinned.

Hunting is already a disgusting hobby as it is, but to murder an innocent lion meant to assist in research that helps the species is completely despicable. I urge you to severely punish to the maximum degree the hunter(s) who committed this horrific crime.

Sincerely,
