Robert Mugabe warned

President Robert Mugabe has made a grave mistake by choosing to accept advice from "the gang of four" says former party spokesperson Rugare Gumbo.

He was expelled from Zanu-PF last year together with former Vice President Joice Mujuru and 16 cabinet and deputy ministers on allegations of working in cahoots with opposition forces to remove Mugabe from power.

The gang comprises Oppah Muchinguri, Jonathan Moyo, Saviour Kasukuwere and Mugabe's nephew Patrick Zhuwao. Gumbo said Mugabe risked having his attention diverted from the need to fulfil electoral promises and address pressing economic issues.

He said the "gang of four" was bent on destroying Zanu-PF from within and would employ all sorts of machinations to divert Mugabe's attention from the demands of the people so as to make the party unpopular among the electorate.

"With the challenges that the party is facing now, you cannot say it is moving in the right direction. People are trying to destroy the party from within and as far as we are concerned, the new Zanu-PF led by mafikizolos is different from the party that we know.

"Of course he (Mugbe) is being misled by the gang, who have used his wife to get him on their side. He is being misled by political vultures who want to destroy the party from within," said Gumbo.

Gumbo said it was imperative for Mugabe to call for an extra-ordinary congress that would solve the turmoil in Zanu-PF and save Zanu-PF from being unpopular among Zimbabweans.

He said fulfilment of electoral promises was critical for the survival of political parties and urged Mugabe to solve the differences within Zanu-PF urgently as these had led to poor performance by the party as far as delivering to the people was concerned.
