America is waiting for a signal from President Robert Mugabe's government in order to resume full scale relations, US ambassador to Zimbabwe, Bruce Wharton said yesterday.

Wharton indicated that American businesses are ready to invest in Zimbabwe as long as Harare provides policy consistency and clarity particularly as regards the Indigenisation Law.

He said they have regularly reviewed the measures on Zimbabwe and they will continue to do so.

Quizzed on whether American policy on Zimbabwe might change, given the shifts in the country's leadership he said they have no say in Zimbabwean politics and that is up to people of this country and political parties to decide.

He could not be drawn into commenting on his appreciation of President Mugabe two deputies.

The US envoy said America made a big revision to the sanctions after the referendum and following President Mugabe's assent to the new Constitution.
