Zimbabwe government controlled media on Wednesday reported that Zimbabwe was negotiating a deal with South Africa to import power to improve domestic supply.

The energy minister MDC-T's Elton Mangoma said the deal would see the country importing power during South Africa's off-peak periods.

Minister Elton Mangoma said the modalities of the South African deal are already being worked out.

He said South Africa should stop reducing its power generation during off-peak periods and export the excess to Zimbabwe.

In March, Zimbabwe upped its power imports from the Democratic Republic of Congo. But this has not been enough to offset a reported 600 megawatt shortfall.

This could hit Zimbabwean factories, mines and homes that are already crippled by power cuts. Electricity Zesa
