Government has operationalised two toll plazas which were constructed as part of the ongoing US$206 million Plumtree-Bulawayo-Harare-Mutare road rehabilitation project.

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development through the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA) has operationalised two additional toll plazas namely the Ruwa-Marondera and the other between Gweru and Kwekwe.

Toll fees to be paid at new toll plazas, which are part of the joint venture agreement between ZINARA and Group Five, would be the same for all vehicle categories with those at other tollgates.

The toll plazas have similar design as those already in use including a computerised system linked to the Central Vehicle Registry (CVR) and will use vehicle licence plates to recognise types of vehicles.

Meanwhile, government is confident that the road rehabilitation project will be completed by year end.

The country's first toll plaza was commissioned on the 10th of April 2013, about 16 kilometres from Bulawayo.

The new toll plazas are envisaged to modernise the country's road infrastructure in line with government's drive to rebuild a seamless road transportation system that would enhance regional trade, improve foreign direct investment and increase revenues into the fiscus.
