Controversial musician Jacob Moyana says he is being unfairly treated by music promoters and radio stations because he hails from the minority Ndau tribe.
Moyana, who was barred from performing during the 21st February Movement Gala due to the lyrical content of his songs which are deemed obscene, claims that promoters are just looking for an excuse to shut him out.
"We ought to promote minority languages, and music is one such tool," said Moyana just after a packed show at Salaco Sports Dinner in Gweru recently.
"The Harare syndrome is retrogressive. Harare wants all artistes to be under its control.
"Other cities and areas should also be allowed to contribute to Zimbabwe's musical heritage" Moyana said.
The Chipinge-born musician, who appreciates the support he has received from music promoter Biggie Chinoperekwei and Dendera star Suluman Chimbetu, flatly denies that his lyrics are dirty.
"Promoters who have deep pockets are trying to disable me from earning a living when the truth of the matter is that I use ordinary Shona used by everyday people.
"Those that say my music is vulgar are the ones you find listening to music that insults their parents in English and other foreign languages yet they have the guts to point an accusing finger at me" he added.
The Munotidako singer is determined to rise to the top despite all the impediments being placed in his way.
"Music fans are following me wherever I perform.
"This confirms that the people who want to be happy don't want to be involved in tribal politics. They are just after fun and nothing more.
"Because they are doing everything to stifle me, I am now personally distributing my music for free during my shows" he said.
