A 13-year-old girl reportedly broke into her assailant's room stealing 13 disks and $20 in an attempt to frustrate him and expose the abuse.

The 32-year-old man allegedly raped the girl and threatened to use juju on her through a sangoma earlier. When the man approached the girl's grandmother to report the theft, she then revealed the abuse.

The old woman reported the matter to the police leading to his arrest.

The girl reported that the man had sent her to buy a soft drink.

On his return, he ordered her to get inside his lodgings where he raped and offered her a R5 to conceal the offence.

Prosecutor Mr Edmond Ndambakuwa alleged that in April, last year, the man called the girl to his room and gave her $2 to go and buy a litre of Coca-cola. She complied and was accompanied by her younger brother to the nearby tuck shop. The girl returned from the tuck shop and left her brother playing outside with other children.

Further allegations are that upon the girl's entry into the man's room, he allegedly held her hand and she asked him the reason why he was holding her.

Appearing before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Kudakwashe Jarabini, the man was not asked to plead to rape charges.

He was remanded in custody to tomorrow for trial and was asked to apply for bail at the High Court.
