A 13-year-old Plumtree girl committed suicide by hanging after complaining to her siblings that her grandmother was not giving her enough food.

The deceased juvenile was from Mayobodo area under Headman Matenga in Chief Bango's area.

Matabeleland South acting provincial police spokesperson Asst Insp Ngwenya said  the young girl used a wire to hang herself while she was herding donkeys with her two siblings.

"The juvenile was herding donkeys with her two sisters, one aged six and another aged eight, when she started complaining that she was not being given enough food at home. She told them that she was willing to commit suicide by hanging herself with a wire that she was holding," he said.

Asst Insp Ngwenya said the juvenile then left her siblings and went into the bush. They realised that she had gone for long and decided to report the matter to her grandmother, who followed to the bush and found the girl's lifeless body hanging on a tree. Food Suicide
