Mugabe happy with Sadc summit outcome

President Robert Mugabe on Sunday said he was happy with the outcome of this weekend's South African Development Community (Sadc) summit in Mozambique.

President Jacob Zuma is mediating in the Zimbabwe crisis and Sadc has confirmed he must be directly involved in helping Zimbabwe towards a constitutional referendum and free and fair polls.

The next elections are scheduled to take place in 2013.

Meanwhile, there was no mistaking Mugabe's triumph after the latest summit in Maputo.

 He told reporters he was very happy with the outcome of the meeting and he hopes the next meeting on Zimbabwe would just be as successful.

The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) wanted Sadc to be more critical of what they see as Zanu-PF's reluctance to implement the nearly four-year-old power sharing deal.

Sadc is still insisting on holding a constitutional referendum before elections.

They urged Zimbabwe's political parties to engage with Zuma if they have difficulties with the new constitution.
