President Robert Mugabe, says the 16th Non-Aligned Movement summit to be held in Iran end of next month should serve as a platform to reinvigorate and resuscitate the movement.

Mugabe was speaking during a meeting with a special envoy of Iranian President Mohammed Ahmadinejad, Dr Reza Taghipour in the capital this Tuesday morning.

Dr Taghipour delivered a special message to Mugabe inviting him to the summit to be hosted by Teheran next month.

Mugabe said while Zimbabwe is happy that Iran is hosting the gathering, he is concerned that developing countries who constitute the larger part of the United Nations membership are denied equal membership with the West  in the world body.

"The organisation has been left to be inactive as it has not been meeting as often as it should, at a time when it is confronted with the arrogance by the Western powers, as evidenced by events in north Africa," said President Mugabe.

Mugabe also spoke about Zimbabwe-Iran cooperation where he expressed readiness to strengthen ties with the Persian country in various spheres.

The President expressed support for Iran's exploitation of nuclear energy and rebuked the hypocrisy of those who are criticising the Middle East country for using nuclear energy for peaceful means, yet the same countries use it for bombs.

The special envoy, Dr Taghipour said Zimbabwe – Iran ties are improving tremendously adding that through the signing of various memorandums between the two sides, the countries will soon witness the fruits of the cooperation.
