Police Commisssioner-General Augustine Chihuri has rallied the police to be patriotic and support government initiated policies and programmes.
He said the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) will continue to support the land reform and indigenization programmes despite being vilified by the private media and civic society organisations.
Speaking Thursday during a pass out parade of 441 police "recruits" at Morris depot that was also attended by Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander Constantine Chiwenga, Chihuri said the ZRP was a people's police force, "a shining beacon in upholding the rights and freedoms of the citizenry."
The police Commissioner General whose speech was full of Bible quotes said supporting indigenization and the land reform programmes was in line with the police force's motto "Pro-Lege, Pro Patria, Pro-Populo," which means for the law, for the country, for the people.
"I am aware that the Zimbabwe Republic Police is being vilified for supporting people oriented policies by the government such as the indigenization and the land reform programme. However, as an organisation, we shall continue to support these policies despite the unwarranted smear campaign. Even the Holy Bible in the book of Jeremiah Chapter 3 verse 19 enjoins us to support our leaders who jealously fight and safe guard out heritage when it says I quote," how gladly would I treat you like sons and give you a desirable land, the most beautiful inheritance of any nation. I thought you would call me father and not turn away from following me," Chihuri said.
