ACTING Chief Ndanga of Zaka and his passenger died while seven others were injured when the car he was driving collided with another at the 18-kilometre peg along Roy-Chiredzi Road at the weekend.

Masvingo Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tinaye Matake confirmed the accident that happened on Saturday. He said Simon Charinda (60) who was acting Chief Ndanga of Shumbaimwe Village, Zaka, died together with Elisha of Matsakatsa Village.

Insp Matake said on Saturday at about 10.30am, Chief Ndanga was driving his Mazda B1800 from his homestead near Ndanga Business Centre with one passenger on board.

When Chief Ndanga reached the 18km peg he turned right into the main road along Roy-Chiredzi highway upon which he was hit by a Mazda B2200.

The truck was being driven by Mr Tasunungurwa Manyangadze (41) of MaungwaVillage,

Headman Chipinda in Masvingo and had seven passengers on board.

Insp Matake said Mr Manyangadze allegedly failed to control his vehicle resulting in it colliding with the chief's vehicle.

Chief Ndanga and the seven injured were taken to Ndanga Hospital. However, the traditional leader who had sustained serious injuries was transferred to Masvingo General Hospital where he died on admission.
