Bulawayo-based businessman, Mr Raj Modi has donated groceries worth US$10 000 to the Grace Mugabe Children's Home in Mazowe.

The food stuffs comprise mealie-meal, bath and laundry soap, body creams, cooking oil, milk, dry beans, rice, salt and sugar.

The groceries were acquired using a US$10 000 voucher handed over to President Robert Mugabe by Mr Modi.

The Grace Mugabe narrated how she mooted the project way back in 1998 when she was given a piece of land in Harare and how the project was moved to Mazowe during the land reform programme where a derelict farm was identified.

Amai Mugabe expressed gratitude to Mr Modi for the donation saying the project is her own small way of contributing to Zimbabwean society and called on the corporate sector to play their part in contributing to social responsibility by helping the less privileged.

She pledged to share the donation with some older homes such as Chinyaradzo and Matthew Rusike which she said are facing enormous problems due to inadequate funds.

The Grace Mugabe Children’s Home which opened its doors on the 13th of July last year with 15 children, now has 24 children, 10 boys and 14 girls, who were brought in from Harare Hospital and Mpilo paediatric wards.

A stone throw away from the children’s home, massive construction of a primary school which will have four streams per class, is underway.

The construction which began in November last year, is expected to be completed well before time in December this year.
