One of Zimbabwe's wealthiest businessman Sam Levy has died aged 82, state controlled ZBC has reported.

Levy who owns Sam Levy  Village in Harare's  Borrowdale suburb is said to have died on Wednesday morning.

As the news filtered through several people expressed sadness on their twitter accounts.

Sharon Tawuya, a journalist in Harare  wrote "One of #Zim's richest man Sam Levy has died. He shall be remembered whenever we shop at Sam Levy shopping mall, Borrowdale, Harare. R.I.P"

Another tweet read  "RIP Sam Levy. Thank you for that lovely shopping village - my favourite."

However, in 2005, the spacious mall was nearly demolished during Operation Murambatsvina for allegedly contravening city by-laws.
