POLICE have arrested a Lalapanzi cross-border trader for allegedly hiring the services of five men, including her son, who then gruesomely killed a 32-year-old man.
They then allegedly drew blood from his body using screw drivers and a razor blade. Police confirmed the incident.
It is alleged that the woman, who wanted to enhance her cross-border trading business, committed the offence under the directive of a traditional healer from Chipinge where she had gone to seek powers to have her business grow.
Acting police spokesperson for Midlands Province, Assistant Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, said police have since arrested the woman, Blantina Muleya (48), and five accomplices.
He said police have also launched a manhunt for the inyanga who gave Muleya the “prescription†of human blood to enhance her businesses.
Police identified the victim who met his assailants on Monday night as Obert Bere (32) of Village Jiri under Chief Nemangwe, Gokwe.
“It is alleged that Blantina Muleya (48) of Lalapanzi, who is a cross-border trader, sought the services of a traditional healer in Chipinge to enhance her business. The traditional healer then prescribed that she brings 500ml of human blood for the preparation of a concoction for her cross-border trading business,†said Asst Insp Mahoko.
He said Muleya then allegedly engaged five men, including her son, to kill Bere so that they could obtain his blood.
“On 13 May 2012, Edsin Parere (27), Tasara Siwachi (30), Samuel Tafirei (36), Contious Moyo (29), and Muleya’s son, Oliver (24), all of Village Mandindi, Lalapanzi, then took some cyanide, a screw driver and a clinical razor blade and went to the now deceased’s homestead,†said Asst Insp Mahoko.
He said the five suspects then awakened Bere who was staying alone while working as a domestic worker in Lalapanzi.
“They then forced him to drink cyanide before they killed him by strangling. They went on to allegedly use a razor blade and a screw driver to stab him all over the body while drawing blood. They then fled from the scene,†he said.
Asst Insp Mahoko said police officers later got a tip-off from members of the public leading to the arrest of Muleya and all her accomplices.
“Police are also keen to interview the traditional healer from Chipinge who is said to have given Muleya the prescription of human blood to enhance her businesses,†he said.
