MDC-T meets Ambassadors accredited to Zimbabwe

The MDC-T Secretary for International Relations and Cooperation, Jameson Timba, who is also the Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office and Douglas Mwonzora, the COPAC co-chairperson and MDC-T National Spokesperson, today, briefed Ambassadors accredited to Zimbabwe on the recent political developments in the country and the progress made in the Constitution-making process.

During the briefing, the MDC-T leadership expressed hope that the Brussels meeting this week on sanctions would lead to the normalization of relations between Zimbabwe and the EU.

MDC says the Brussels meeting represents an opportunity for those on targeted measures, to change their behaviour on their role in trampling human rights before the next EU meeting is held in July.

The diplomats were informed on the need for the full implementation of the Global Political Agreement (GPA) and the roadmap to free and fair elections. It was reiterated that a credible election is one in which the security of the person and the security of the vote is guaranteed and respected.

The party's spokesperson, Mwonzora then told them that the drafting of the Constitution-making process was complete and the Select Committee will meet on Monday to discuss the draft, which has also been sent to the three principals.

The 2nd All Stakeholders Consultative Conference is expected to be held in June and Copac has a weekly, 30 minute programme slot on ZBC to explain the draft to the people. The ZBC programme has been well received by the listeners and viewers.

The MDC-T expressed concern on recent 'treasonous' statements attributed to Zimbabwe Defence Forces Chief of Staff Major General Martin Chedondo that the military should interfere in politics and support Zanu-PF.
