"As a party, the MDC cordially accepts Mai Mutinhiri's application to join the MDC-T as a card carrying member."
MDC said, "By joining the big happy MDC-T family, Mai Mutinhiri will find peace and joy as we move towards bringing real change to the people of Zimbabwe."
Mutinhiri, a former Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Services was expelled from Zanu PF after she was found guilty of violating the constitution and failing to be loyal to the party as well as failing to conduct herself honestly and honourably in her dealings with the public, thereby bringing her former party into disrepute.
Zanu-PF spokesperson Rugare Gumbo said: "We are not surprised by the move taken. All indications from the time she was with us showed that she was always working with MDC-T. The reasons given by MDC-T for her dismissal are nonsensical."
Gumbo said Mrs Mutinhiri's activities in the public service ministry were anti-Zanu-PF.
At the time of her expulsion, Gumbo said the party's Politburo had "unanimously agreed that she be dismissed.
This was after the party's decision making organ had received a report from the disciplinary committee recommending that she be expelled.
MDC-T spokesperson Mr Douglas Mwonzora said: "Mrs Mutinhiri has joined the happy MDC family. We welcome her with open hands and hope that she will find peace of her political mind in the MDC.
"I think she was unfairly treated in Zanu-PF . . . flimsy allegations were raised against her and she was victimised as a defenceless woman."
Asked whether Mrs Mutinhiri will contest in the forthcoming elections, Mr Mwonzora said: "That is all up to the candidate selection set by the election directorate of the MDC. We have not yet selected."
"We encourage other Zanu-PF members, supporters and ordinary peace loving Zimbabweans to emulate and take courage by leaving the sinking and sunset party - Zanu PF," added the MDC-T.
MDC-T said in the 13 years of its existence it has re-defined the Zimbabwean political landscape, bringing along with it a refreshing atmosphere of dynamism and excitement.
