Millennium Development Goals campaign held in Mutare over the weekend

Stronger ties between government and the civic society have been identified as critical if Zimbabwe is to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by the year 2015, the Zbc News reported on Monday.

This came out at the recently launched MDGs Advocacy campaign held in Mutare.

Running under the theme MDGS in motion; keep the promise, the MDG advocacy campaign held in Mutare over the weekend strived to inform the public of the eight millennium development goals.

It also sought to get feedback from stakeholders on the status of the Manicaland province as well as the country at large in attaining these goals.

The two day campaign took notice of the recently enacted tool of MDG Acceleration Framework (MAF) and the re-prioritized goals by the government of Zimbabwe.

The tool aims to develop a concrete and focused acceleration plan on targets needing urgent attention.

Zimbabwe chose MDG number 2 which is achieving universal primary education.

People living with disabilities also raised concern that the MDGs did not include them.

Observers contend that the country's future depends on today's actions adding there is need for a united approach from both the general public and various stakeholders if Zimbabwe is going to achieve the MDGs by the year 2015.
