A Bulawayo man from Sidojiwe Flats has been sentenced to 12 months in prison for robbing a man of $1.

Its is reported that on December 22, at around 4PM, Stanley Hlabangani was walking from Sizinda towards Sidojiwe Flats and when he was near the flats, he met Kholisani Nyoni.

Nyoni, a father of three, greeted him and asked if he knew a person by the name Niger.

Hlabangani denied knowing the person and Nyoni went on to assault him with a slap on the left cheek before forcibly taking $1 from him.

Nyoni pleaded guilty to a charge of plain robbery before magistrate Sibongile Msipa-Marondedze saying he assaulted and robbed Hlabangani of $1 while drunk.

"Your honour, I'm the sole breadwinner for my family. I'm sorry for what I did as I was under the influence of alcohol," Nyoni said.

Magistrate Msipa-Marondedze said: "In coming up with your sentence, the court considered that you pleaded guilty and did not waste time. You're therefore found guilty as charged, and sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, which are wholly suspended on condition that you perform 316 hours of community service."
