The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Lazarus Dokora has urged schools to apply for holiday lessons to their provincial education directors before the term ends.

Addressing heads and teachers of primary and secondary schools on the country's education policy at Chishawasha Mission Primary, Minister Dokora said schools should apply before the end of term for them to be considered for holiday school lessons.

He said those to be considered include public examination classes for Grade 7, O and A levels classes, victims of unforeseen circumstances that led to loss of learning time and innovative use of teacher expertise and those schools with limited infrastructure.

"The holiday lessons should not however exceed 12 days during the August/September school holidays and there will be no extra payment for tuition," said Dokora.

Schools heads and teachers in the Goromonzi area were also told that contrary to earlier media reports that teachers will not be paid for the time they will be on holiday, conditions of service for civil servants are fixed by the Civil Service Commission and therefore it would not make sense to claim that his ministry has decided that teachers will not be paid during the holidays.

Minister Dokora also said his ministry is now ensuring that education with production is taken seriously in schools as it provides the link between theory and practice.
