ZIMBABWE was ranked among the top six countries with student that scored high marks in the 2012 London Chamber of Commerce International examinations.

Seventeen LCCI students were last week awarded gold and silver medallions at national and international level resulting in the country being ranked sixth out of over 100 countries that offer the courses.

The LCCI students were awarded five gold and nine silver medallions at Country Level Three, one silver medallion at World Level Three as well as one gold and one silver medallion at World and Country Level Three.

Outstanding among the recipients were Ms Thandi Thandoyenkosi Banda and Mr Chamunorwa Katsande, who scooped silver (Business Practice) and Gold (Advertising) medallions at world level, respectively.

Education Development International (EDI), that has been part of the local education system over the last 30 years, awards the LCCI international qualifications.

EDI manager for Middle East and Africa Mr Adam Scott applauded Zimbabwe for consistently ranking high in terms of the LCCI qualifications pass rate at global level.

He was speaking at the 2012 LCCI medallions ceremony held in Highlands, Harare, on Wednesday last week.

"Having 17 recipients of medallions in Zimbabwe and being ranked sixth in the world is very noteworthy as LCCI operates in over 100 countries. LCCI exams are extremely demanding, so a medallion truly represents a remarkable and significant achievement," said Mr Scott.

He said LCCI qualifications have been continuously adjusted and modernised to meet employers' demands and growth of on-demand examinations.

Core proposition, said Mr Scott, remains the same as they focus on employability and ability to meet the demands of industry and commerce.

Over last 30 years, he said, there had been a shift globally towards academic qualifications, particularly within universities, and this had created a mismatch between supply and demand in the job market.

This trend is driving the growth of LCCI across the world and EDI now awards more than 250 000 LCCI international qualifications each year around the world.

"Prestige and recognition are now set to increase significantly because of LCCI's new alliance with Pearson," said Mr Scott.

Pearson is the largest Education Company in the world, and like LCCI, has been in existence over 100 years.
