HE WAITED quietly for the sangoma to leave his surgery. . .
Then the 18-year-old snealted in to steal two blankets, a DVD player and R200!
But instead of leaving the sangoma's yard with his loot, the teenager was found trapped inside, unable to move!
He was found by community members who gave him the beating of his life!
Neighbours saw him wandering in the sangoma's yard and that's when they got suspicious and attacked.
Local people said he got trapped by muthi because the sangoma is one of the strongest around. "You can't steal from a sangoma's house," said the locals.
Traditional Healers Association's Phepsile Maseko said this is what happens when you trespass on protected areas. "This sangoma's yard is heavily protected," said Maseko.
The bicycle which he used to transport the stolen goods was found next to him.
The sangoma arrived at home shortly after the beating was stopped by the cops, who came to rescue the young man.
The drama took place in rural Sekgakgapeng in Mokopane outside Polokwane, Limpopo on Monday. Today the suspect is in police cells and appeared in Mokopane Magistrates Court on Tuesday for housebreaking and theft. And the cops have discovered that the suspect is on their wanted list for other crimes.
"He's a well-known suspect and linked to a number of cases around," said Limpopo provincial cops spokeswoman Lieu- tenant-Colonel Ronel Otto.
A resident said: "Since the cops are not helping to sort out crime in our area, we will deal with criminals our own way."
