Expelled African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) President Julius Malema attended the Annual Thabo Mbeki Africa Day Lecture at the University of South Africa (Unisa) campus wearing a red Zanu-PF T-Shirt with President Robert Mugabe's face on it. He was also wearing his trademark yellow beret for the economic freedom fighters.

Malema was with other suspended ANYL leaders Sindiso Magaqa and Floyd Shivambu. They arrived to wild cheers at Unisa hall in Pretoria.

Malema is a well known Mugabe admirer. He once said Africa needs leaders like Mugabe who is not scared of the west.

Malema once said Africa need leaders like Fidel Castro, leaders like [Zimbabwean President Robert] Mugabe who can stand against the West.

South Africa's former President Thabo Mbeki and three other former presidents discussed the challenges facing Africa and the African Union. Panelists included former President of Nigeria Olusegun Obasanjo, Cape Verde's Pedro Peres and Mozambique's Joaquim Chissano.

Malema said Human Settlement's Minister Tokyo Sexwale qualifies to become the next president of the ANC

Malema recently confirmed that he will abide by the decision of the ANC Youth League's National Executive Committee that he remains at the League's helm. He was speaking at the National Press Club in Johannesburg.

Malema, who was flanked by Magaqa and Shivambo, has also expressed confidence in the leadership of the  League's National Executive Committee under the stewardship of deputy president Ronald Lamola.

Malema said Human Settlement's Minister Tokyo Sexwale qualifies to become the next president of the ANC because he is in good standing in the organisation. He said contrary to last weekend's reports he has never received money from the businessman who is reported to be eyeing the ANC's top post.

Malema says although the League will only pronounce on its preferred candidate for ANC president in October as per ANC instruction, there is nothing wrong with people backing various candidates.
