JOHANNESBURG - The axe has fallen on Generations star Melusi Yeni.
In a brief Press announcement, the SABC 1 soapie announced they were getting rid of the popular actor.

"After a year-and-a-half on, millions of South African viewers' television screens, Melusi Yeni - who plays the character of Phenyo Dlomo in the popular daily drama Generations - is being written out of the show.

"Phenyo will be on viewers' screens until early December 2013. His exit storyline promises to be intriguing as he faces new challenges and difficult choices. Loyal Generations viewers should not despair as new talent will be introduced on the soap in the near future," it read.

Generations executive producer Mfundi Vundla said: "Melusi is one of South Africa's most talented actors. I'm certain he will continue excelling in the exercise of his craft."

Yeni, whose star reached greater heights ever since he joined the soapie, declined to comment when contacted by City Press.

The role of Phenyo is of a high-powered lawyer who was recently caught cheating on his wife Dineo (played by Katlego Danke) with Dineo's sworn enemy Noluntu Memela (played by Zenande Mfenyana).

Yeni has been voted the sexiest man in newspaper and magazine polls and his sharp sense of style landed him on several best-dressed lists.
