BULAWAYO-born musician, Mkhululi Bhebhe, who is part of South African gospel group Joyous Celebration, is set to record his first solo album.

Bhebhe, who was a revelation in the 2007 edition of the now defunct CBZ A-Academy, won the hearts of Zimbabweans with his performance.

In an interview recently, Bhebhe said the reason he sang was to praise God since He was an inspiration to him.

He said people have been waiting for him to release an album and said it was only a matter of time before he did.

"The reason I sing is to praise God through music.

"People have been waiting and because of funds and other constraints, I have not been able to record the album," said Bhebhe.

He said the album is about the love of God and his son Jesus Christ but he had not given the album a title.

"I will be singing about the love of God and his son Jesus.

"I am just concerned with what God wants me to minister about. He is my inspiration and I will wait on Him," said Bhebhe.

He said as soon as he returned to South Africa he would start recording the album.

"They are waiting for me to start recording and it's about time," said Bhebhe.

He said his stay at Joyous Celebration had been great and he was happy to have launched Joyous 16.

"We launched our tour in April and it was good.

"I have appeared on eTv on Sunrise and 3Talk with Noleen.

"The stay has been great and we are one big happy family," said Bhebhe.

On Saturday Bhebhe performed for about 7 000 people at Barbourfields Stadium who anticipated a performance to remember from him.

However, his performance was cut short when he sang Ichokwadi Mwari Aripo.

The crowd invaded the pitch in excitement and organisers ordered them to move off saying the crowd could damage the pitch, much to the disappointment of many.

In 2007 Mkhululi, despite being seen as one of the best talents to grace the CBZ A-Academy, unbelievably came second, much to the chagrin of music fans.

Last year he with Joyous Celebration put up a splendid performance at the Harare International Conference Centre during their tour.
